Bone Densitometry (DEXA) is a diagnostic service that uses X-rays to measure bone mineral content and density, primarily detecting conditions like osteopenia or osteoporosis where the bone’s mineral density is low, and the risk of fractures is increased. This test is crucial in determining decreased bone mass, a condition where bones are more brittle and prone to break and is used to assess future fracture risk.

Computed Tomography (CT) imaging is a diagnostic procedure that employs a combination of X-rays and computer technology to generate detailed images of the body’s internal structures. It’s particularly effective for examining people who may have internal injuries from accidents or other types of traumas and is also used to diagnose diseases, develop medical treatment plans and monitor the effectiveness of certain therapies.

Cardiac imaging (echocardiography, Stress Echo) is a non-invasive ultrasound test that provides a graphic outline of the heart’s movement, allowing cardiologists to evaluate the heart’s structure, function and blood flow. Performed by cardiac sonographers, it employs techniques such as 2D ultrasound, Doppler ultrasound and strain imaging to diagnose conditions like cardiomyopathy and valve disease.

Fluoroscopy (upper GI, barium enema, arthrograms) is a medical imaging procedure that uses brief bursts of an X-ray beam to display real-time footage of internal organs and tissues on a computer screen. It’s used for both diagnostic purposes and as imaging guidance for certain procedures, providing a detailed view of body systems in action.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a non-invasive technology that generates detailed 3D images of the body’s anatomy. MRI is used for disease detection, diagnosis and treatment monitoring. Unlike X-ray or CT scan, MRI uses a magnetic field that works with radio waves and hydrogen atoms in your body to create cross-sectional images – like slices in a loaf of bread. MRI does not use radiation to generate images.

Mammography is a test that uses X-rays to create images of the breast. Mammography is done with digital breast tomosynthesis, also called “tomo” or 3-dimenstional (3D) Mammography. A radiologist, trained to read mammograms, studies the images and looks for signs of breast cancer.

Ultrasound, also known as sonography, is a diagnostic medical imaging method that employs high-frequency sound waves to produce real-time images of structures within the body. These images provide valuable information for diagnosing and directing treatment for a variety of diseases and conditions.

X-Ray detects a wide range of conditions including fractures, tumors and infections. It is commonly used in the diagnosis and monitoring of conditions affecting the bones, lungs, heart and other internal organs.
