Radiology

SEARHC’s Radiology Department provides a variety of advanced imaging options in a caring and safe environment. When you need to have photos taken of the inside of your body, like an X-ray for example, our radiologists specialize in reading and making sense of the imagery captured so they can help your other doctors figure out what’s going on inside you.

Radiology at SEARHC includes a variety of imaging techniques such as X-ray radiography, ultrasound, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), digital 2D and 3D mammography to diagnose and/or treat diseases.

Using the diagnostic images, your SEARHC radiologist or other physicians can often:

  • Diagnose the cause of your symptoms
  • Monitor how well your body is responding to a treatment you are receiving for your disease or condition
  • Screen for different illnesses, such as breast cancer, colon cancer, or heart disease

SEARHC’s radiology department provides real-time monitoring of patient positioning, x-ray tube alignment and cassette placement through its award-winning remote camera technology. The department was awarded the 2018 Innovation in Transformation Award by the Alaska State Hospital and Nursing Home Association.

Dr. Loren Laybourn and Clinical Radiology Quality Specialist EvaMarie Popelka received the 2018 Innovation in Transformation Award for their remarkable work with the remote camera project.
