Dr. Steuerwald specializes in emergency medicine with a focus on prehospital medicine, EMS medical direction, and critical care transport medicine. His expertise includes prehospital and emergency airway management, as well as research and training in those areas.

He earned his undergraduate degree in biology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine.

Dr. Steuerwald is a highly experienced educator and prolific author in the area of prehospital and emergency airway management, as well as critical care transport medicine. Through this work, he has become internationally recognized as a thought leader and educator. He is particularly motivated by building systems and delivering training that help teams prepare for high-risk events, ultimately reducing preventable harm and tragedy.

Dr. Steuerwald lives on a small farm with his wife and daughter. In his free time, he enjoys restoring older trucks and SUVs.
