Education and Experience
Dr. Kimiko “Koko” Urata is a dedicated psychiatrist specializing in population mental health and integrated care. A Juneau native, Dr. Urata has always been driven by a deep commitment to her hometown, inspired by the unique challenges and strengths of its diverse community. She is passionate about addressing healthcare disparities and improving access to care in remote and rural areas, tailoring solutions that are both inclusive and effective for Southeast Alaska’s unique needs.
Dr. Urata earned her Bachelor of Science in Human Biology and Master of Science in Biology from Stanford University. She completed her residency at the University of Washington’s Rural Montana track, followed by a fellowship in Population Mental Health and Integrated Care at the University of Washington’s Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. Her areas of focus include collaborative and integrated care models that bridge traditional healing practices with modern medical and mental health services.

Personal Interests
Outside of work, Dr. Urata finds balance through activities that connect her to nature, foster creativity and nurture relationships. She enjoys swimming, hiking and exploring Juneau’s stunning landscapes. She also appreciates the city’s vibrant arts scene, enjoys cooking and sharing meals with loved ones and treasures quality time with her family and friends.
