Education and Experience
Dr. Victor Harrison grew up in rural Laupahoehoe, Hawaii. He was inspired to pursue a medical career at the age of thirteen, when diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. Dr. Harrison earned his bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University, then went on to earn his doctorate’s degree from John A. Burns School of Medicine.
While attending medical school he worked briefly under SEARHC provider, Dr. David McCandless. Dr. Harrison said he “was impressed by the breadth of his practice; from a traveling clinic, to managing people in the ER, and end of life care. Because of our upbringing we both have an affinity for and miss the rural atmosphere.”
Dr. Harrison is board certified in Internal Medicine, Pediatrics and Pediatric Endocrinology and enjoys treating people of all ages. He worked in Pennsylvania and Arizona before moving to Wrangell. With an interest in diabetes research, he participated in a rigorous pediatric endocrine fellowship.
Dr. Harrison’s connection to Southeast Alaska didn’t actually start with SEARHC. His wife Kaelene attended high school in Wrangell. After they married, both Victor and Kaelene worked for the Forest Service in Wrangell for two years. Dr. Harrison also lived and worked in Arizona and Philadelphia prior to his arrival at SEARHC.
When asked what he is looked forward to most as he joined the SEARHC team, Dr. Harrison said “I hope to work hard, play hard and I am grateful for the opportunity to be in Alaska!”

Dr. Harrison’s medical interests include internal medicine, pediatrics, endocrinology and primary care.
