Juneau, AK – October marks Breast Cancer Awareness Month, an annual campaign to raise awareness of the disease and to explore research into the causes, treatments and cures for breast cancer. In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium (SEARHC) is providing 3D mammograms across the communities of Southeast.
“The best protection is early detection,” said Amy Martens, Lead Mammographer, SEARHC Diagnostic Imaging, Sitka. “I explain to my patients that having your mammogram will not prevent you from being the one in eight women with breast cancer. Our goal is to catch it early so the patient has a good outcome and can maintain their quality of life.”
In the month of October, SEARHC is offering 3D screen mammograms with no out-of-pocket costs for patients. Interested patients can call any time this month to schedule an appointment for any time of year. Mammograms for this promotion will be available in Juneau, Haines, Klawock, Sitka and Wrangell.
“SEARHC is dedicated to the women of Southeast – we added four new first-rate digital 3D mammogram units over the past two years. Two of these units provided new programs at our Haines and Klawock communities. We are committed to providing quality breast health options for our patients,” Martens said.
