Education

Dr. Shamim Nejad provides care with a clinical focus in psychiatry and addiction medicine. He is board-certified in addiction medicine, behavioral neurology and neuropsychiatry, brain injury medicine, consultation-liaison psychiatry, and psychiatry. His clinical expertise centers on caring for patients with complex medical and surgical conditions involving co-occurring neuropsychiatric and substance use disorders. Dr. Nejad earned a Bachelor of Science degree in biochemistry from the University of Washington and received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Washington School of Medicine. Dr. Nejad has been actively involved in teaching internal medicine, surgery, and psychiatry trainees and has received numerous awards for excellence in teaching and patient care. Through his work in clinical care, research, and education, he has focused on improving care at the intersection of medicine, substance use disorders, and psychiatry. Dr. Nejad values meaningful connections with others and considers it a profound privilege to care for patients during times of illness and adversity. He is motivated by lifelong learning and continuous improvement in clinical care and health care system delivery.

Outside of clinical practice, he enjoys soccer, running, hiking, camping, and spending time with his family.
