Awards and Honors
Dr. Haberman received the New Hampshire Academy of Family Physicians Award for promise of excellence in family medicine and the Antarctic Service Medal.
Education and Experience
Dr. Mackenzie Haberman joins SEARHC from Anchorage, Alaska after finishing her Family Medicine training at Alaska Family Medicine Residency where she was lucky enough to rotate around Alaska including MEMC-Sitka, Utqiagvik, Bethel, and at Cordova Medical Center. Dr. Haberman attended Barnard College of Columbia University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degrees. Before transitioning to medicine, she worked on a scientific icebreaker in Antarctica, navigated hot air expeditions in Switzerland, dogsled in Iceland, and taught sail training in the South Pacific as a deck and medical officer. The terror and joy of these remote medical experiences are what drew her towards medicine initially.
She later attended Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth for her Medical Doctorate where her interest towards rural medicine only grew. She continues to be professionally interested in austere and remote medicine, maritime medicine, point-of-care ultrasound, and a broad range of family medicine topics including women’s health, trauma-informed care, and lifestyle medicine. She was drawn back to Sitka by the interdisciplinary care team and chance to serve the diverse and resilient population in Southeast Alaska.
Personal Interests
Outside of medicine, Dr. Haberman enjoys hiking, flyfishing, sailing, and running at a glacial pace.
