Education and Experience
Dr. Charles Jin is a highly accomplished psychiatrist with extensive experience in general psychiatry, pediatric psychiatry and addiction psychiatry. He earned his medical degree from the School of Medicine at Shanghai Jiao Tong University and later completed a Master of Science in Medicine at Memorial University of Newfoundland, Canada.
Dr. Jin graduated from his Addiction Psychiatry fellowship at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York, and completed his Child & Adolescent Psychiatry fellowship at the University of Toronto. Over the years, he has held numerous prestigious positions, including Medical Director and Fellowship Training Director for Addiction Psychiatry at North Shore University Hospital as well as core teaching faculty for both addiction and child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship programs.
Dr. Jin’s teaching expertise covers a wide range of psychiatry topics, including psychopharmacology, neurobiology of addiction, developmental psychiatry and behavioral genetics. His lectures have been widely praised by residents and fellows in training. In 2021, he was honored as a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, the highest honor awarded by the organization to psychiatrists who have made significant contributions to the field.
Before joining SEARHC, Dr. Jin also worked in administrative and teaching roles at Delaware State Psychiatric Centre, Montefiore Medical Centre and Northwell Health. His broad experience reflects his commitment to advancing the field of psychiatry and his dedication to patient care.
Personal Interests
Dr. Jin is a proud father of four children, ranging from tweens to twenty-somethings. Originally from China, he met his wife—a nephrologist—during his graduate studies in Vancouver, BC. Together, they have lived across North America, from Vancouver and Newfoundland to New York City and Philadelphia, before settling in Sitka.
Outside of work, Dr. Jin enjoys spending time with his family. He is deeply grateful for the opportunity to work with SEARHC and enjoys contributing to the community.
