Education and Experience
Leslie DeFluiter holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a Bachelor of Arts in Religion from Southern Adventist University, as well as a Bachelor of Science in International Rescue and Relief from Union College Lincoln. Following her undergraduate studies, Leslie received her master’s degree as a Family Nurse Practitioner from Tennessee State University.
When it comes to working with her patients, Leslie says “obesity can rob us of so much life, not just longevity but quality. I love creating a shame-free space where it is safe for patients to talk about their struggles with obesity, to educate patients on the disease of obesity and to partner with patients in creating goals that will lead to living a life of their choosing. It is rewarding to see patients able to live with less pain and more able to engage in their lives.”
Personal Interests
When not at work, Leslie enjoys playing the piano and learning how to play guitar, hiking and exploring Sitka, as well as creating a sense of community. You can usually find her working on her DIY projects, reading, having game nights with her friends or hanging out with her son.
