SITKA, Alaska – The SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium (SEARHC) helped welcome baby girl Lyla Belle Miller to the world on January 14, the first baby delivered at Mt. Edgecumbe Medical Center (MEMC) in 2023.
Lyla Belle Miller was born at 10:27 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 14th, to parents Kamilia Burks and Robert “RJ” Miller of Sitka. Weighing in at 8 pounds on the dot and measuring 21 inches long, Lyla was delivered by Dr. Melody Shepherd and assisted by nurses Mandy, Jeannie and Jen R. Lyla is the couple’s first child.
The SEARHC obstetrics team provided a gift basket to help welcome baby Lyla to the world.
MEMC has an obstetrics team committed to a safe and positive pre and post-natal delivery experience. MEMC is also recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF as a Baby-Friendly Hospital for providing breastfeeding mothers the information, confidence, and skills needed to initiate and continue breastfeeding their babies successfully.
