Education & Background

Education

Dr. Smith graduated from University of Texas Health Science Center in 2003. Prior to joining SEARHC in 2008, she spent five years in Bethel, Alaska. She completed an Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency, with an emphasis in Orthodontics, Oral Surgery, and Operating Room Full-Mouth Dental Rehabilitations. She has over 12 years of experience in teaching and mentoring mid-level providers and residents. She has served in a leadership role for the SEARHC Dental Program since 2015. Working in remote areas of Alaska has allowed Dr. Smith to work at the top of her scope and provide advance dental services in isolated communities. She looks forward to sharing her services throughout Southeast Alaska.

Awards & Honors

Dr. Smith was awarded the Indian Health Service’s Excellence in Clinical Dentistry Award in 2005 and she has won several other U.S. Public Health Service awards.

Personal Interests

Dr. Smith’s clinical interests are TMJ (temporomandibular joint) issues, complex medically compromised patients, complex restorative dentistry, and pediatrics. Outside of the office, Dr. Smith enjoys spending time in the outdoors. She is fortunate to raise her two sons in the Sitka community and is involved in many school and sports activities. She is drawn to the ocean and aspires to sail the world.
