Hailing from the small farming and logging town of Banks, OR, Dr. Alex Polston’s journey in medicine began at Portland State University for his undergraduate studies. He furthered his education at Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU) in Portland, where his medical and research training focused on the social determinants of health.
Driven by a commitment to rural medicine, Dr. Polston pursued his residency at Alaska Family Medicine in Anchorage, Alaska. During this time, he gained invaluable experience caring for diverse populations in both tertiary care hospitals as well as frontier and low-resource settings. Recognizing the need for highly trained physicians in maternal and child health in rural communities, Dr. Polston went on to complete a fellowship in Swedish Advanced Obstetrics in Seattle, WA.
Dr. Polston’s journey has taken him across various Alaskan communities, including Dutch Harbor, Nome, Bethel and Valdez. His time in these locations has solidified his dedication to providing high-quality care to underserved populations. He is thrilled to be back in Alaska, working with a skilled team of physicians, nurses, pharmacists and support staff at SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium (SEARHC) since 2022.
As a board-certified generalist in Family Medicine, Dr. Polston’s expertise extends to patients of all ages and conditions. His additional training in reproductive care and surgical obstetrics, coupled with his fellowship in obstetrics, allows him to provide specialized care during significant life transitions.
Dr. Polston finds immense fulfillment in working with patients during crucial life events, particularly during the transformative journey of childbirth. Whether in Emergency Medicine, Inpatient Care, or Obstetrics, his goal is to empower patients by making the seemingly daunting, doable. Dr. Polston measures success in his ability to support patients in making informed decisions about their health.
