Education and Experience
Dr. Michael Chavez is a dedicated physician with a passion for patient-centered care and helping individuals achieve their health goals. He holds dual undergraduate degrees in Psychology and Economics from Southern Methodist University and earned a Biomedical Sciences Certificate from the University of Texas at Dallas. Dr. Chavez completed his medical degree at Texas A&M University College of Medicine, followed by a residency at the University of Texas Medical Branch and a Sports Medicine Fellowship at Texas Tech El Paso, where he honed his expertise in musculoskeletal care and interventional procedures.
Throughout his career, Dr. Chavez has worked with athletes at all levels, from high school teams to professional and elite competitors, gaining a deep understanding of sports medicine. He also served as a faculty educator at the University of Nevada, Reno, training medical students, residents and fellows in sports medicine. His diverse experience includes serving as a medical officer at Great Basin National Park and participating in two Himalayan treks, further expanding his global perspective on health and wellness.
Dr. Chavez joined SEARHC in Oct. 2024 for the opportunity to practice medicine in a patient-focused organization within the stunning landscapes of Southeast Alaska. He values connecting with people from all walks of life, learning about their stories and championing their journey toward improved health and quality of life.
Personal Interests
Dr. Chavez enjoys spending time with family, exercising, hiking and backpacking.
