Dental Health Aid Therapist (DHAT)

Dental Health Aide Therapists, commonly referred to as DHATs, are mid-level dental health professionals, similar to Physician Assistants, who work under the supervision of a licensed dentist. DHATs provide essential care, filling a vital role in improving oral health access and outcomes, particularly in underserved areas.

The Dental Health Aide Therapist Program is a 2-year degree certificate program sponsored by SEARHC and offered through the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium (ANTHC) in Anchorage. Trainees learn to perform preventive dental services, basic restorations and uncomplicated extractions. These services can include basic fillings, diagnostics, community health engagement and other procedures.
