SEARHC adds free After-Hours Nurse Advice Line in Sitka

SITKA, April 20, 2016 – SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium (SEARHC) is pleased to introduce its After-Hours Nurse Advice Line to Sitka beginning April 27, 2016.

The After-Hours Nurse Advice Line is a free resource that allows SEARHC patients to obtain healthcare information and triaging services when the local clinic is not open; making reliable health information provided by registered nurses just a phone call away.

It is extremely common for health concerns to arise outside of regular clinic hours. Does the issue require a visit to the emergency facility, a call to the doctor, or is it something one might try to handle with proper home care? The free After-Hours Nurse Advice Line offers advice for things as simple as what over the counter remedies are appropriate for a child’s cold symptoms and as complex as explaining a patient’s new medication. The After-Hours Nurse Advice Line nurses are also available and can advise patients during, what may be a more serious and extremely stressful, health-related situation.

Additionally, patients can download SEARHC’s free “eHealth” application through a link on the organization’s website. It has an extensive library that one can use to assess immediate health concerns. The application directs users to the Nurse Advice Line for further assistance when necessary.

Living in Southeast Alaska presents a unique set of challenges. The After-Hours Nurse Advice Line eliminates, at least, one of those challenges by providing access to professionals after hours, and the peace of mind that comes from knowing this resource is available.

In SEARHC’s continuing effort to deliver access to quality health resources, adding an after-hours option was the next logical step. Keep in mind, however, that this service is not a substitute for one’s relationship with a regular provider, but an excellent supplement to that relationship.

SEARHC’s After-Hours Nurse Advice Line is easily accessible by calling the toll-free number, (800) 613-0560. For more information, Sitkans are encouraged to visitsearhc.org/service/nurse-line or contact SEARHC’s Health Systems Specialist, Angela Shipley, (907) 785-6536.
