Laura Prestidge’s educational background includes a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Illinois Wesleyan University, followed by a Family and Emergency Nurse Practitioner degree from Loyola University Chicago. She further enhanced her expertise by earning a master’s degree in public health and disaster management from Benedictine University in Lisle, IL.
Before becoming a Nurse Practitioner, Laura worked extensively in the emergency department and spent several years as a travel nurse. This experience took her to various locations, ultimately sparking her interest in rural medicine and bringing her to Bethel, Alaska. Her passion for urgent and immediate care has been a consistent focus throughout her career as a Nurse Practitioner.
Laura firmly believes that a healthy community is built by focusing on the well-being of both individuals and the community as a whole. She finds it particularly rewarding to consider and address these dual aspects in her practice, ensuring comprehensive care for her patients and the broader community.
In addition to her role at Haines Health Center, Laura is an active member of a federal medical disaster team. She deploys to provide critical medical care to communities devastated by disasters, viewing this role as both an honor and a privilege. The ability to assist people during some of their greatest times of need is a testament to her dedication and compassion as a healthcare provider.Personal Interests
Outside of her professional life, Laura enjoys a variety of outdoor activities. She loves spending time with her husband, family and friends, and engages in hiking, camping, backpacking, gardening and participating in triathlons. These activities not only enrich her personal life but also reflect her appreciation for nature and an active, healthy lifestyle.
