Dr. Peterson earned his medical degree from the University of Iowa, College of Medicine in Iowa City. He also earned a Master of Medical Management degree from Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana; and a Master of Public Health degree from the University of Alaska in Anchorage.
Mark spent 26 years working with Indian Health Services (IHS): 23 of the years in Juneau; 3 years at Fort Peck Reservation in Montana; and 5 years of locum tenens work. His time as a locum included work in New Zealand, India, Antartica and Kenya. Mark also spent a year doing community health work with new immigrants in Seattle and Minneapolis.
When asked about his work with SEARHC he said “I have had a very long association with SEARHC and have always appreciated the organization’s long term view. and goals that keep people healthy and support their desire to stay healthy is as important as treating their disease.”
Mark’s professional interests include International and multicultural health care.
Outside the office he enjoys international travel, hiking, and bike riding. Mark once rode a bicycle from Cairo, Egypt to Capetown, South Africa.
