Wrangell, AK – The Walker Foundation is proud to announce its latest round of grant awards, aimed at empowering the community and strengthening the area’s infrastructure. This spring, the foundation has awarded more than $70,000 in grants to vital local initiatives.
Dedicated to safeguarding community communication channels, the Foundation has committed $10,000 to KSTK, the local radio station for the procurement of an emergency generator. This grant ensures that essential information reaches all residents, even during power outages or other emergency situations, enhancing the safety and well-being of the Wrangell community.
Continuing the Foundation’s commitment to local health services, $45,898 has been awarded to the Wrangell Volunteer Fire Department for the purchase of a Zoll Auto Pulse. As a resuscitation system, the Zoll Auto Pulse provides high-quality automated CPR to victims of sudden cardiac arrest. The funding will also be allocated to purchase a MegaCode Kelly, a full-body manikin designed for the practice of advanced, difficult and obstructed airway scenarios and IV therapy. These innovative devices will support the continuous improvement of emergency response and training in the Wrangell healthcare sector, enhancing the department’s preparedness for medical emergencies.
The Foundation also regularly supports community recreation and wellness initiatives. In line with this, the City of Wrangell Parks and Recreation Department has been granted $15,000 for the Mt. Dewey Trail Extension. This project will increase local recreational facilities, promoting community health and wellness.
