Living In Gustavus

With only a population of 450, Gustavus is the quaint and charming launch point for adventures in Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve.

What to See and Do

With an abundance of snow-capped mountain ranges, ocean coastlines, deep fjords and freshwater rivers and lakes in full view, Gustavus has become a prized destination for several acclaimed sculptors, painters, potters, jewelers and woodcarvers to practice and sell their work at local galleries, studios and shops in town. In addition to the art and splendor of Glacier Bay, the Mount Fairweather Golf Course is another popular recreation option for visitors during the summer.

During the summer, visitors can enjoy local fine dining at some of the local Inns or enjoy a full-service restaurant at the Glacier Bay Lodge. Year round, the town has a wholesale market and a natural food store and deli.

How to Get Around

Air:

The Gustavus Airfield accommodates commercial passenger jets and chartered aircraft. Scheduled service between Gustavus, Skagway, Haines, Hoonah and Juneau operate daily during the summer and on a limited basis during the winter.

Road:

With no roads into Gustavus most visitors arrive by plane or boat.

Water:

The Alaska Marine Highway System has weekly sailings to Gustavus almost every week on Mondays and Wednesdays.
