SEARHC Offering Mammograms at no Cost to Patients

SITKA – In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium (SEARHC) is offering patients in Sitka and Wrangell mammograms with no out-of-pocket costs. SEARHC will cover all remaining costs after insurance is billed, and all costs for patients without insurance coverage. Patients must call their local provider by the end of October and schedule an appointment to be eligible.

“SEARHC remains committed to providing our patients with the best possible care, including helping women to stay up to date on their very important screening tests,” said Pam Sloper, SEARHC WISEWOMAN Clinical Lead.  “Breast Cancer Awareness Month is an excellent time to contact your provider about a mammogram.  Simply call your clinic before the end of October and your next mammogram will be at no cost to you.”

All women are at risk for breast cancer – it is the most commonly diagnosed cancer and second leading cause of cancer death among Alaskan women. Regular screening can often identify breast cancer early when treatments are most likely to be successful and increase the chances of long-term survival.

No cost mammograms are made possible by the SEARHC and the WISEWOMAN program, which provides low-income, underinsured or uninsured women with chronic disease risk-factor screening, lifestyle programs, and referral service. For more information on WISEWOMAN, please call 1.888.388.8782.
