SEARHC available to help navigate health coverage enrollment in Wrangell

Wrangell – To help community members navigate the process of applying for health insurance through the Health Insurance Marketplace during this year’s open enrollment period, SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium (SEARHC) Outreach and Enrollment Specialist, Susan Briles will be in Wrangell October 23 – 25. Susan will be available by appointment at the AICS Medical Clinic each of those days to help people apply for insurance on the Health Insurance Marketplace, renew their Marketplace insurance, apply for Tribally Sponsored Health Insurance (TSHIP), help those turning 65 apply for Medicare, and assist with Medicaid applications. She will also be at the Tlingit and Haida 2017 Client Service Informational Fair Monday, October 23, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at the Nolan Center.

Susan Briles, SEARHC Outreach & Enrollment Specialist said, “This is an excellent opportunity to get affordable health coverage. The majority of those that apply for health insurance on the Marketplace can get low-cost plans. Additionally, this is the first year that single adults and married couples without children are eligible to apply for Medicaid.” Briles added, “SEARHC Outreach & Enrollment staff are specially trained to help people navigate the process of getting insurance coverage and avoid common Marketplace pitfalls. I strongly encourage anyone that would like to explore their options to contact me.”

It is important for people to know that the open enrollment period for obtaining or changing insurance plans through the Affordable Care Act’s Health Insurance Marketplace was shortened to just six weeks this year. Enrollment begins November 1 and ends December 15.

SEARHC is a Certified Application Counselor agency offering free assistance to all Southeast residents. Those interested are encouraged to call AICS at 874-4700 or call Susan directly at 907-966-8662 to schedule a time to meet.
