SEARHC Announces Spring 2019 Mobile Mammogram Schedule

JUNEAU – The Southeast Alaska Regional Health Consortium (SEARHC) WISEWOMAN Women’s Health Program, in partnership with the Breast Cancer Detection Center, is pleased to announce the Spring 2019 mobile mammography schedule.

The mobile van will visit sites around Southeast; Angoon April 25 & 26, Gustavus April 30, Kake May 2-4th, and Haines May 7-9th. The WISEWOMAN team will also be available for appointments for cardiovascular risk reduction at these times.

Breast cancer is one of the most commonly diagnosed cancers and the second leading cause of cancer death (after lung cancer) among Alaskan women. But, early detection of breast cancer through regular screening increases the chances of early intervention and long-term survival. SEARHC is here to help by removing geographical barriers to mammography for women who would otherwise have to travel to receive breast cancer screening.

“SEARHC WISEWOMAN is proud to provide this service and delighted to be able to offer the latest digital technology to our patients! We hope women capitalize on the cost savings and convenience of having the van travel to your home clinic. We think this is also an excellent time for women to contact their local clinic to schedule an appointment with their provider for a Women’s Health Exam,” says Pam Sloper, WISEWOMAN RN. She adds, “Build a tradition of prevention by addressing all of your health concerns, and talk with your provider about what screenings are right for you.”

The SEARHC WISEWOMAN program not only makes mobile state-of-the-art digital mammography technology possible for women in the region, but the program also provides Pap tests, and cardiovascular screenings for all women ages 30-64, and mammograms for women ages 40-64 who meet income and insurance guidelines.

For more information about mobile mammography or to make an appointment, please contact your local clinic, or call the SEARHC WISEWOMAN Women’s Health Program at 1-888-388-8782.
