SEARHC Announces Spring 2018 Mobile Mammogram Schedule

JUNEAU – The SouthEast Regional Health Consortium (SEARHC) WISEWOMAN Women’s Health Program (WISEWOMAN), in partnership with the Breast Cancer Detection Center, is pleased to announce the Spring 2018 mobile mammography schedule.

The mobile van will visit Angoon April 26-27, Gustavus May 1, Kake May 4-5, Haines May 7-11, and Yakutat May 23-24. The WISEWOMAN team will also be available for appointments at these times.

All women are at risk of getting breast cancer. It is one of the most commonly diagnosed cancers and the second leading cause of cancer death (after lung cancer) among Alaskan women. But, early detection of breast cancer through regular screening increases the chances of early intervention and long-term survival. SEARHC is removing the geographical barriers to mammography for women who would otherwise have to travel to receive breast cancer screening.

“SEARHC WISEWOMAN is delighted to provide this service and proud to be able to offer the latest digital technology to our patients and hope women take advantage of the convenience and cost savings of having the mobile mammography van travel to you. We also strongly encourage women to contact their local clinic to schedule an appointment with their provider for a Women’s Health Exam,” says Pam Sloper, a WISEWOMAN RN. She adds, “This is a great time to address all of your health concerns and talk with your provider about what screenings are right for you.”

The SEARHC WISEWOMAN program not only makes mobile state-of-the-art digital mammography technology possible for women in the region, but the program also provides free clinical breast exams, Pap tests, cardiovascular screenings for all women ages 30-64, and mammograms for women ages 40-64 who meet income and insurance guidelines.

For more information about mobile mammography or to make an appointment, please contact your local clinic, or call the SEARHC WISEWOMAN Women’s Health Program at 1-888-388-8782.
