The SouthEast Regional Health Consortium’s WISEWOMAN Women’s Health Program in partnership with the Breast Cancer Detection Center is pleased to announce the Spring 2016 mobile mammography schedule.
The mobile mammography van will visit Yakutat April 4-7, Angoon April 21-23, Kake May 6-7, and Haines May 9-14.
All women are at risk of getting breast cancer – it is the most commonly diagnosed cancer and the second leading cause of cancer death (after lung cancer) among Alaskan women. Early detection of breast cancer through regular screening increases the chances of long-term survival. Mobile mammography allows greater accessibility for women that would otherwise have to travel to receive a breast cancer screening.
“We are delighted to provide this service and proud to be able to offer the latest digital technology to our patients. We hope more women take advantage of the convenience and cost savings of not having to travel for this important screening. We also strongly encourage women to contact their local clinic to schedule an appointment with their provider for a Women’s Health Exam,” said Pam Sloper, SEARHC WISEWOMAN Women’s Health RN. She added, “This is a great time to address all of your health concerns and talk with your provider about what screenings are right for you.”
The mobile mammography program is made possible through SEARHC WISEWOMAN Women’s Health Program’s partnership with the Breast Cancer Detection Center. The SEARHC WISEWOMAN Women’s Health Program provides free clinical breast exams, Pap tests, and cardiovascular screenings for all women ages 30 to 64, and mammograms for women age 40-64 who meet income and insurance guidelines.
