Education and Experience

Margaret graduated from Columbia University with a Master’s of Science in Social Work. She also has a Chemical Dependency Counselor I and Type C Certification. She has training and experience in several different therapeutic modalities including TF-CBT, DBT, EFT, and EMDR. In addition to outpatient services, Margaret has also worked in a youth residential treatment home and as a school social worker at the alternative high school. In the years before moving to Alaska, she worked in a restorative justice program in Minnesota. Other experience includes providing individual and group therapy as well as HIV testing throughout Harlem and South Bronx with Harlem United Community AIDS Center and volunteering as Rape Victim Advocate at Bellevue Hospital in New York City.

In her current role at SEARHC, Margaret’s primary focus is helping individuals and families overcoming addiction and moving forward into recovery. She also enjoys working with individuals, couples, and families on a broad range of life transitions and mental health challenges. She finds it rewarding to see people untangle themselves from negative thinking patterns that have kept them feeling alone, stuck, or unfulfilled. She truly believes that a little bit of light dispels a lot of darkness (Schneur Zalman of Liadi).

My English name is Margaret Gallin. My Hebrew name is Margalit Neztach. I am adopted Kiksadi Raven and my Tlingit name is Xixchi Xooni.

Personal Interests

When not at work, I most love to spend time with my family on the trails or camping or at home with a book by a warm fire. I gratefully acknowledge that I live, work, and learn on beautiful Tlingit Aaní.
