Education and Experience
Karen Darnell spent 26 years as an x-ray technologist before going back to school to complete her bachelor’s degree in molecular and cellular biology at Winona State University. Following completion of her undergraduate studies, Karen went on to attend Physician Assistant school and received her masters degree at the University of Wisconsin Madison. Prior to moving to Juneau to join the SEARHC team, Karen worked at Mayo Clinic Rochester as a Physician Assistant in family medicine.
Karen loves connecting with her patients in a way that makes them feel heard and understood. She enjoys seeing a range of patients – from newborns to elders – and has a passion for addiction medicine, working with LGBTQ+ community members, behavioral health, family medicine and treating underserved populations in Juneau.
Outside of work Karen can be found enjoying the outdoors hiking while watching for wildlife or inside crafting her next project.
