Gloria A. Benson, BSW, CDC-1
Education and Experience
Gloria Benson is a Medical Social Worker at Wrangell Medical Center. She received her certification in social work from the National Association of Social Workers (NASW). Gloria earned her Bachelor of Social Work from the University of Alaska Fairbanks. The Bachelor of Social Work Cohort was created for rural Alaskan communities through the State of Alaska and UAF. It is an honor to be a part of that cohort.
Before joining the SEARHC Care Network, Gloria worked with Yakutat Community Health Center Behavioral (YCHC), Health Services Department. At YCHC she gained valuable professional experience working as a Chemical Dependency Counselor, in Community Outreach and as a Fee Agent. Earlier in her career, Gloria was a Director of Higher Education and Director of Vocational Education under the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA). She was also a project coordinator for the Yakutat Community Coalition, a Federally Funded Grant ‘SAMHA” funded through Yakutat Tlingit Tribe Social Services. She worked full time while attending school in both Bethel and Fairbanks.
When asked about her arrival here, Gloria commented “I appreciate the training and dedication of SEARHC employees”.

Massage and neuromuscular therapy rate high on Gloria’s list of professional interests. Outside of work, she enjoys time with family, the outdoors, yoga, reading and meditation.
