Mt. Edgecumbe Medical Center Delivers First Baby of 2021

Sitka – SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium (SEARHC) helped welcome baby girl Cattleya Diann Strauderman to the world on January 8, 2021. Cattleya is the first baby delivered at Mount Edgecumbe Medical Center (MEMC) in 2021.

Mother Keira Budke and father Cody Strauderman of Hoonah added Cattleya to their family at 5:34 p.m. She weighed in at 7 pounds 11 ounces, measured 19 inches long, and was delivered by Dr. Valerie Edwards.

MEMC has an obstetrics team committed to a safe and positive pre and post-natal delivery experience that is available to patients across the SEARHC Care Network. MEMC is also recognized by the World Health Organization and UNICEF as a Baby-Friendly Hospital for providing breastfeeding mothers the information, confidence, and skills needed to initiate and continue breastfeeding their babies successfully.
