Mount Edgecumbe Medical Center Welcomes First Baby of 2020

SITKA – SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium (SEARHC) helped welcome baby girl Ilani Sabella Lassus to the world on January 1st, the first baby delivered at Mount Edgecumbe Medical Center (MEMC) in 2020.

Ilani was born at 9:34 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 1, to parents Gabriel and Caroline Lassus of Sitka. Weighing in at 6 pounds 10 ounces and measuring 19.5 inches long, Ilani was delivered by Dr. Charles Roesel.  Ilani is the couple’s first child.

MEMC has an obstetrics team committed to a safe and positive pre and post-natal delivery experience.  MEMC is also recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF as a Baby-Friendly Hospital for providing breastfeeding mothers the information, confidence, and skills needed to initiate and continue breastfeeding their babies successfully.
