CBJ Parks and Recreation Department hotline (586-0428)

Free hiking groups organized by the City and Bureau of Juneau (CBJ) Parks and Recreation Department meet every Wednesday and Saturday. Interested hikers should call the Parks and Rec hotline the day before the hike. Recorded information about what to bring, where and when to meet is available on the hotline. 

Information from the Parks and Rec website: “Recreational hikers of all abilities are welcome to join in and experience Juneau’s gold mine of exciting trail lore, wildlife, flora and fauna. Hikes are offered every Wednesday and Saturday by volunteer hike leaders who educate while they lead. Hike leaders are certified in CPR and first aid. Explore some of Juneau’s history as you travel over trails once used by the gold miners of the late 1800s and early 1900s. Enjoy the spectacular scenery, beautiful wildflowers and good company. No dogs or firearms, please. Hike destination information will be announced 24 hours in advance on the Parks and Recreation Department hotline (586-0428).”
