A new Free Service 

Living in one of Southeast Alaska’s outlying areas presents a unique set of challenges. Creating availability to the SEARHC After-Hours Nurse Triage Line helps eliminate one of those challenges. The Nurse Triage Line provides the peace of mind that comes from knowing this resource is available for your family's health and well-being.

Starting February 26, 2014

The free Nurse Triage Line may be accessed by calling your local SEARHC clinic or the toll-free number, 1-800-613-0560 after-hours.

  • February 26, 2014: Kake, Angoon, Hoonah, and Prince of Wales Island patients received access to the toll-free number above.
  • April 1, 2014: Haines, Klukwan, and Pelican patients gained access to the toll-free number.
  • July 1, 2014Juneau is scheduled for service.

How it works

When you experience health issues you do not know how to handle outside of normal clinic hours, you call your SEARHC clinic or 1-800-613-0560. Your free call will be answered by medical service representatives and registered nurses who will:

  • Provide a timely response to your questions
  • Determine whether your health issue requires a call to your provider and if so, contact your SEARHC provider
  • Give you tips to care for the problem yourself, if home care is appropriate
  • Connect you with emergency services if necessary
  • Answer general health questions

Nurses provide advice for something as simple as what over-the-counter remedy is appropriate for a cold symptom, to something as complex as explaining what a new medication is for. They can also advise patients during, a more serious and extremely stressful, health-related situation.

Downloadable Smartphone App

Download SEARHC "Healthcare on the Hip" a web-based Nurse Triage Smartphone application (or app) without visiting an App Store. The app has an extensive library which helps you assess your health concern or issue. If necessary, you will be directed to call the Nurse Triage Line for further assistance.
