February 03 2010The SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium (SEARHC) WISEWOMAN Women’s Health Program and Sitka Community Hospital are teaming up to promote heart disease awareness. We are encouraging all of Sitka to join together and wear red. Wear red to work, school, and play. Heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women in America and of both men and women in Southeast Alaska. According to the American Heart Association, “every minute, someone’s mother, daughter, wife or sister dies from heart disease and stroke in the United States.” By wearing red Friday, February 5th, you can show your commitment to promoting heart disease awareness. Let’s turn the tide on this disease by reducing our risks. These include: getting screened every year, keeping active, eating healthy foods and not smoking. Both Sitka Community Hospital and SEARHC provide heart health screenings for Sitkans and programs for reducing risk. Call to get more information about your options.
