December 22 2009The SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium (SEARHC) recently used a billing service to send out past-due notices on some older accounts. These recent notices are confusing and lead some patients to think their accounts have been sent to a collection agency. We want to assure our patients that no accounts have gone into collection status at this time. We apologize for the confusion and are working with our patients to clear up any concerns they may have with their bills. While most of the bills mentioned in these past-due notices are correct, we discovered issues with some accounts and are working to get those fixed. If you have any questions about your bill, please call our Patient Accounts department so we can verify the charges. The amount may be for an insurance co-pay or deductible, or it may be for a service that was not covered by your insurance company. Our Sitka patients can call 966-2411 and ask to be connected to the Patient Accounts department, and our patients from other communities can call 1-877-966-8433 (toll-free in Alaska). “We apologize for the disruption and confusion, and we hope to work with our patients to ensure that their accounts are correct,” said Joan Carr, SEARHC Revenue Cycle Director. “We have fixed our phone system so we can take calls in a more timely manner. If you get a recording, please let us know your name, contact information, the best time to call and concerns about your bill. We will take your information, research the problem and get back to you with an answer as soon as possible.” If you have moved, changed phone numbers or insurance information, please call your local clinic to update your record. Again, SEARHC apologizes for the confusion and we are working to correct the accounts as soon as possible.
