The SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium (SEARHC) recently hired Cal K. Curt, FNP, to join its medical staff at the Hoonah Health Center as a family nurse practitioner.
Curt comes to Hoonah from northern New Mexico, where he spent the past 22 years practicing in a variety of rural clinics in El Centro-Dunham, Peñasco, Chama Valley and Raton. He most recently worked for the El Centro Family Health-Dunham Clinic in Chama, N.M. Curt earned his Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree and his family nurse practitioner certification from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. He is board-certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).
“Cal is a highly experienced family nurse practitioner with more than 20 years in clinical medicine,” said David Vastola, MD, SEARHC Community Health Care Services Medical Director. “We are excited to have him joining the staff at the Hoonah Health Center. He will join Jeff Chelmo, PA-C, as the second permanent midlevel provider in the clinic. Hiring a second provider was part of the SEARHC management plan for Hoonah. In addition to the increase in local staffing, SEARHC has augmented the number of primary care physician visits to the community.”
Curt’s medical interests include rural health and emergency medical services. He also enjoys hunting, fishing, the outdoors, farming, ranching, reading, and watching his kids and grandkids.
“I am wonderfully excited about moving to this region of the world and specifically this community,” Curt said. “The culture and character that have evolved in this intense and beautiful geography are unmatched anywhere.”
