Two Family-Fun North Douglas Trails – to try this week
Easy hike on well maintained path, 1.5 miles (3 miles roundtrip), Elevation gain is about 100 feet, CBJ Natural Area Park
Access is at 11.9 Mile on N. Douglas Highway. This is a very attractive pathway through old growth trees to the rich intertidal beach. It was funded by Head Tax money from cruise ship visitors. Great beach view across Favorite Channel to the Chilkat Mountains.
Outer Point Loop Trail
Easy hike, 1.5 miles, Elevation gain is about 50 feet, CBJ Natural Area Park
Access is at 12.4 Mile on N. Douglas Highway. Trailhead is 0.7 mile from the end of N. Douglas Hwy. When the trail forks, continue straight along planked walkway down to the beach. From the point where the trail (stairs) joins the beach, go right for about 500 feet to pick up the trail back into the woods. The trail will split with a choice to go along the upper beach or stay in the woods. Go to the right when you reach the planked walk to return to the original trailhead.
Get Out the Boat (GOTB) – Wenesdays 6pm
