Michele earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Kentucky in Lexington, and a Master of Science in Nursing from Spalding University in Louisville, Ky. Michele rejoined SEARHC in January 2012 to provide services at the Klukwan Health Center and the Haines Health Center (with occasional trips to Tenakee Springs to provide services). She previously worked as a nurse practitioner and clinic supervisor at the SEARHC Kake Health Center from 2007-09. Between her stints at SEARHC, provided primary health care and emergency services in Big Timber, Mont. Prior to her first job with SEARHC, Michele worked with a mobile health clinic in Lexington, Ky., and worked in emergency departments in Southeastern Kentucky and Southwestern Montana, before making her way to the Kenai Peninsula where she spent 2 1/2 years living and working in the Alutiiq villages of Port Graham and Nanwalek.
Michele was inducted into the Iota Gamma Chapter of the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing.
Michele’s medical interests include Native people’s health concerns and naturopathic herbs and diets, family medicine and pediatrics with an emphasis on wellness promotion and preventive medicine, and emergency medicine. She also enjoys hiking, biking, snow sports (including downhill and cross-country skiing and snowshoeing), bird watching, and she is learning about kayaking.
