Education 

Janai received her Bachelor of Science in Food and Nutrition from the University of Idaho, Moscow. She was born and raised is Southcentral Alaska where she worked for Alyeska Pipeline Service Company, the Alaska Railroad Corporation and for Trappers Creek Smoking Company prior to completing her degree. Janai completed her internship at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, Washington. She worked as the Chief Clinic Dietitian at Ketchikan General Hospital before joining SEARHC Community Health Services in 1998.

The SEARHC communities Janai serves include Wrangell, Petersburg and Prince of Wales Island (Craig, Thorne Bay, Klawock, Hydaburg and Kasaan).

Awards & Honors 

Janai was featured in the Today’s Dietitian Magazine article: Top Ten Dietitians of 2012 ~ June 2012. She also serves as co-chair for the Society for Nutrition Education and Behavior division of Weight Realities.

Special Interests: 

Janai's professional and personal interests have happily landed her in the area of local and traditional foods; harvesting, gathering and preservation especially with seaweeds. She enjoys working with Diabetes prevention and supporting breastfeeding moms. Janai practices motivational interviewing and promotes a Health at Every Size philosophy for wellness. Other interests include: gardening, rowing, cedar weaving, active mother to her two boys, and volunteering for many youth sports programs.
