Dr. Bowman earned a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the University of Health Sciences in Kansas City, Mo. He has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Hampshire College in Amherst, Mass., and a Master of Science degree from the Marshall University Department of Family and Community Health in Huntington, W.V. He completed a Family Medicine residency at Marshall University and also completed an emergency medicine fellowship at Charleston Area Medical Center and West Virginia University (Charleston, W.V.). He earned a Master of Health Administration degree from the University of Washington (Seattle) in August 2007. Dr. Bowman joined the SEARHC medical staff in 2007, when he was hired as the medical director at the Haines Health Center. Dr. Bowman returned to Sitka in 2012 when he was promoted to medical director for SEARHC Community Health Care Services, where he supervises the medical staff at SEARHC’s rural clinics. Before moving to Haines to work for SEARHC, Dr. Bowman spent six years as a flight surgeon for the U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Sitka. He also has been a flight surgeon with the U.S. Army National Guard in West Virginia and with the U.S. Coast Guard in Virginia.
Dr. Bowman is a Fellow in the American Academy of Family Physicians and he is a Fellow in the American Academy of Emergency Medicine. Dr. Bowman has a Certified Physician Executive (CPE) credential from the American College of Physician Executives. He holds the rank of Captain in the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Officer Corps.
Dr. Bowman is interested in rural emergency medicine and in health care management and policy. He also enjoys travel, photography, boating and fishing.
