Information for employers
The Community Wellness Advocates are critical community change agents who complete the triangle of our village-based health workforce. Having a trained Community Wellness Advocate (CWA) on your staff bolsters the health of your organization. Most of Alaska's tribal health organizations employ CWAs, but tribes and Native corporations also can hire them.
A CWA is trained to:
- assist health professionals in assessing individual and community needs,
- plan and implement effective health education programs,
- coordinate the provision of services to groups and individuals,
- act as a resource person for health promotion in their community, and
- communicate health needs and concerns to their community.
