Gunaanastí and Déilee Hít (Bill Brady Healing Center and Safe Harbor House)

Our Services

Gunaanastí is a nationally accredited 45-day coed residential substance abuse treatment program based in Sitka, Alaska, that serves Alaska Natives and American Indians.

We provide effective individualized prevention, substance abuse, and behavioral health treatment services in a respectful, culturally appropriate manner, using a variety of treatment methods:

  • Individual and group counseling
  • Substance abuse assessment and education
  • Alaska Native cultural activities and education
  • Challenge initiative and ropes course activities
  • Peer support groups and talking circles
  • Five phases of treatment privileges (see below)
  • A choice of Alcoholics Anonymous/12 Steps, Medicine Wheel or Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT) homework.

Program staff members work with clients to develop their physical, emotional, mental and spiritual strengths, as well as their communication and problem-solving skills.

Five Phases of Treatment Privileges

One of the basic philosophies of Gunaanastí is that clients who make progress in their treatment also are making progress in improving their behaviors. As clients progress through the program and master each of the key five behaviors, outside contact privileges are slowly added back into their daily routine; phone calls, visitors and therapeutic passes are ways that the program honors hard work.

During the program, clients spend about a week working on each of the five behaviors:

  • Focus on yourself and why you chose to come here
  • Accept the person you find inside yourself
  • Commit to working on your recovery
  • Change your unhealthy behaviors into sober, healthy ones
  • Maintain your new behaviors so you can continue your recovery once you leave the program
