SITKA – SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium (SEARHC) is inviting Native high school students to apply for the 2017 Ethel Lund Village Health Occupations Program (VHOP) that takes place Monday, April 10 through Friday, April 14, 2017, in Sitka.

Each year, the SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium (SEARHC) selects several Southeast-area Native students interested in health careers for VHOP, and the students spend a week at Mt. Edgecumbe Hospital learning about different health careers and educational opportunities. Participation numbers over the past several years have been excellent and included students from high schools all over Southeast Alaska.

The Boys Run vision: To instill healthy relationship and lifestyle skills in boys through running and cultural activities, empowering them to create a community of nonviolence and respect. The event is 10 weeks long.

MEETING TIMES:

Montessori Borealis: M/W 3:15-4:30pm
Riverbend: M/W 2:30-4pm
Harborview: T/Th 2:30-3:45pm

This is a life-changing empowerment program for boys in 3rd-5th grade. The program combines training for a 5k (3.1 mile) running event with a curriculum designed to help equip participants for navigating challenging situations, such as peer pressure, violence and healthy choices.

SITKA – SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium (SEARHC) is honored to have recently been awarded a $1,039,603 grant by Indian Health Service (IHS) as part of the Special Diabetes Program for Indians. The annual grant supports diabetes care and prevention services at SEARHC facilities throughout Southeast Alaska for five years, potentially bringing more than 5 million dollars to the region to help patients.
